Former Senator of Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, has reminded President Tinubu that he has to release all Nigerian youths still held for the Endsars protest.
Shehu Sani told Tinubu that as father of protest before he assumed office as the president, he lacked moral right to still hold some of the Endsars protesters in prison.
Senator Sani said while Tinubu and Nigerians, continue to celebrate those who fought for democracy during the June 12 annulment of MKO Abiola’s election by General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, Endsars protesters have been incalcerated for fighting for the same democracy in October 2020.
Sani, who was one the freedom fighters on June 12 invited by President Tinubu for the Democracy Day Dinner, said Tinubu should not forget that the Endsars protesters fought for good government, freedom and a working Nigeria like he did in all the protests he joined before his assumption as president.

In his statement during the dinner, Senator Shehu Sani said, “There are some people who are still in detention as a result of the Endsars protest. They were young people who were protesting for freedom, for justice and for democracy.
“Any young protester in Nigeria today learned from you because you were the father of protest in Nigeria. do something about it give them the freedom, you taught us, you funded us to stand up and fight, so they are your children and your grandchildren, give them the pardon.”
Sani further told President Tinubu that national anthem and national pledge cannot unite Nigeria. He said the President must work on freedom and justice for all Nigerians irrespective of religion or tribe to unite the country.
He told Tinubu that his administration’s policies have brought hardship upon Nigerians. He called for quick policies that would address hardship in the country.
According to Amnesty International, at least 50 Nigerian youths who protested against police brutality and bad governance in the Endsars protest of October 2020 remained incarcerated in various correctional centers across Nigeria.
