We've more to offer for sports growth in Enugu- Gov Mbah

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, said sports growth in Enugu required more investment.

Governor Mbah said this on Sunday, June 16, as Rangers International beat Bendel Insurance to claim victory of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Professional Football League tournament.

Mbah said the eighth victory of Rangers was a proud. The eighth victory which happens to be the first in Mbah’s administration was also the first for Rangers coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu in 45 years of coaching.

“Rangers International made us proud yet again, defeating Bendel Insurance FC with a score of 2-0. This is the eighth time the team has clinched the championship position.

“Remarkably, this victory is a defining one, qualifying them for the CAF Champions League. They have shown that success doesn’t occur by soulful wishing but through painstaking planning and hard work,” Mbah said.

He added that the state government was still transforming the sports industry of the state. He promised to reward the victory of the team.

“As a government, we shall ensure there’s a reward system to motivate them to strive to bring home the trophy.

“In Enugu State, we are still in the business of transforming the sports industry and that includes the sports infrastructure – building world-class facilities and upgrading existing ones to world-class. We have only just begun.”

Rangers’ coach, Fidelis said the team remained focused on winning every game and not the trophy. He said the victory was product of teamwork. “From the beginning, our focus as a team was to win every game in the league. We never pressure ourselves on winning the NPFL but win every game. I’m happy we achieved our goal even before the end of the season.”
