Tinubu rewards Soyinka's support with highway

President Bola Tinubu rewarded the support of noble laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Tinubu, on Tuesday, June 4, named the commissioned Arterial Road N20 from Northern Parkway to Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) after Wole Soyinka.

The first African Noble Laureate who was a critic of bad governance policies of previous Nigeria presidents, has been accused by many Nigerians of supporting economic policies of Tinubu. Soyinka’s silence in fuel subsidy removal and electricity tariff hikes by President Tinubu was described by some Nigerians as compromise.

In naming the ONEX highway as Wole Soyinka Highway, Tinubu said the playwright has brought honour and fame to Nigeria.

A statement from Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser of Information and Strategy read, “President Tinubu has named the Arterial Road N20 from Northern Parkway to Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) as Professor Wole Soyinka Highway as recommended by the FCT administration.

“In naming the road after the distinguished playwright, poet and novelist who clocks 90 on 13 July, President Tinubu said Soyinka was the first African to win the Nobel Literature Prize. He said Soyinka has brought honour and fame to Nigeria.”
