Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has pledged to support Nigerian teenage girls, trafficked to Ghana, for sex work.
Obi also said he would collaborate with individuals and organizations to combat girls’ trafficking for inhuman trades and exploitation.
A video had circulated on social media on Sunday, June 9, showing Nigerian teenage girls who were trafficked to Ghana for sex work.
Obi, in reaction to the viral video, called on Ghana and Nigeria’s authorities to quickly take action to save the girls.
He condemned the act of human trafficking, lamenting the insecurity of the girl child and the need to support them.

The former governor of Anambra State said, “I was made aware of a disturbing incident yesterday, involving some Nigerian teenage girls who were trafficked to Ghana, as seen in a viral video. I am deeply concerned and saddened by this ugly situation, and I am urgently appealing to the relevant government authorities to take immediate action to rescue and protect these vulnerable girls.”
He added, “Furthermore, I am willing to collaborate with any individual or organization involved in the efforts to combat human trafficking and support the victims. It is our collective responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of these young girls and to prevent such horrific incidents from happening in the future.
“I urge the government to take swift and decisive action to investigate this incident, bring the perpetrators to justice, and provide support and rehabilitation to the victims. I also call on non-governmental organizations, civil society,and individuals to join forces in this fight against human trafficking and exploitation. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer and more just society for all.”
