Don't touch pensioners' N20trn- Okonkwo to Tinubu

A former spokesman of Peter Obi and Datti Ahmed presidential campaign council, Kenneth Okonkwo, has advised the President Tinubu-led federal government to distance from N20 trillion pension funds.

The Federal government through the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun in May disclosed that government would deploy the N20 trillion pension funds to finance infrastructural projects of the government.

Okonkwo said the federal government intends to vandalize the pension funds that should cater for old citizens who gave their best to Nigerians. He argued that a government finding it hard to pay living wage to civil servants who are currently service should not destroy the hope of retirees.

“Under no circumstance should we allow APC government under Tinubu to vandalize pension funds contributed by workers meant to cater to the old age expenses of the suffering workers he can’t pay a living wage,” Okonkwo said.

The Nollywood veteran said the plan by the government showed insensitivity to reality of workers. He said since the government removed fuel subsidy, savings from the subsidy have not been accounted for. He alleged under Tinubu government, $17 billion borrowed by the administration in one year was “squandered”.

“This is the height of insensitivity and must be resisted. This government has blown all the revenue they collected from removing fuel subsidy, squandered the borrowed $17b in a year, and wants to eat pension funds. All workers and Nigerians must say no to the destruction of the future of Nigerians,” Okonkwo added.
