Following series of demolitions of people’s houses, businesses and estates across Lagos State, Nigerian singer and songwriter Yemi Alade, has warned investors against investing in the state’s real estate.
Yemi, an activist, said this in reaction to the demolition of houses and estates at Mende Villa 1, on May 5, in Lagos by the state government.
The crooner of King of Queens and Mama Africa lamented that the action of the Lagos State government without giving proper notice to the owners of the property was wrong and inhuman. “You commissioned several building plans in conjunction with Legrande and gained the trust of many. Why dash it all with this one blow? 2 hours is trivial!” Yemi said.
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Afrobeat star and activist said the decision of the Lagos State government was enough reason for her and millions of other Nigerians and foreign investors to avoid investing in Lagos real estate.

“Thank you for giving me and millions of others a reason to not invest in Lagos real estate”, Eberechi wrote on her X handle. She added, “Maybe when you are done turning the whole Lagos into a network of Roads with no residents then your mega city dreams will be complete.
The crooner of Johnny, her first hit song in 2014, advised the Sanwo-Olu-led administration to start refunding legal buyers their funds. “Please start refunding legal buyers at least”, she called.
In a series of tweets on her X handle, Yemi question, “Why and how was the building plan of Mende Villa 1 approved in the first place!?” She continued, “You have commissioned several building plans in conjunction with Legrande and gained the trust of many. Why dash it all with this one blow? 2hrs notice is trivial!”
Yemi added that the Lagos government should have sent “notices to the residents directly! Put it in the news!” Stating that “Showing up like Santa Claus and issuing 2-hour notice is trauma unleashed for undeserving citizens. They are not the developer and yes the developer has also failed residents!”
Maryann Moghalu, an activist and wife of former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had also called on Nigerians to avoid investing in Lagos real estate. She made the call while lending her voice in condemning series of demolitions of licensed buildings by the state and federal governments in Lagos.
